exciting times. for me, at least
September 21, 2007
Somehow I feel like I have been busy when mostly I have been watching TV and worrying about school. There have been a few developments. I met with the professor I am TAing for and the other two students. The professor was very, very nice so far. She’s the kind that wants everyone to do well and even considers other people’s feelings. Already better than my last department head, who had no feelings and thus could not be considerate of other people’s either. And I think I may have made a new friend. She is a big girl, but adorable in that I-love-Paris-and-new-clothes kind of way that French lit students have. Because we both had trouble registering for classes and are new students, we have the same schedule. I also got a key to my office and the building. I’m getting more excited.
I’ve got to get to SF before traffic and parking becomes unbearable.
back in the saddle again

Back in College Town, nothing has changed; I don’t think anything ever really changes here, which is probably part of its charm. I’m in a weird, transitional phase because school hasn’t started, but I already know the place so well. Like I remarked to someone earlier today, it isn’t as if we’re in some new place that we need to go discover and figure out. We know precisely what is happening out in town and we even still know some of the people that are doing it. I haven’t been out anywhere yet, and only partly because I don’t have any money. We’ll have to venture out tonight and conquer my fear of seeing people. It seems kind of strange to go out without Paddy here, since I know I will probably see some of his friends and he was here so long. I’m in a place that always reminds me of him, but he’s not here. Only on weekends. Yeah, going from seeing each other every day, to not at all is awful. The heart is growing fonder by the hour.
I went to my department this afternoon to get some paper work from my mailbox. I already have my office listed on the website. There is a little blank spot on the wall with my name on it where my picture will go with the other grad students. Could they actually be as nice? Perhaps understandably, I am approaching with much more trepidation than the last time around.
Blue Hawaiian

From the title, you might think that I’m making some kind of silly pun about our trip, but really, I think it is my new favorite drink. Hawaii was fantastic.
